She certainly did not wake up that morning thinking that she would meet the man she was to spend the rest of her life with, nor did she think that while gathering her bag together at the end of the day. Cindy started a casual conversation with Herbert, the man sitting on the towel next to hers. Next to Cindy was my mother, next to Herbert was the man who would become my stepfather; her future determined by where she had placed her towel.
