As part of Figure Outing at Schloss Machern I am exhibiting two new works Nowhere To Run and Sie Oben, So Unten (As Above, So Below).
Figure Outing, 13th of July, Schloss Machern at 2 pm
The romantic landscape around the Castle Machern, an English garden, a knight tower and garden sculptures. Painting was a long time servant of aristocratic representation and the medium for the perpetuation of the self-image of the nobility. What is the potentiality of the historic spaces of the castle for contemporary art?
Artists from New York Academy of Art Matthew Comeau, Esteban Ocampo, Camila Rocha, Hannah Stahl and Meisterschüler of Professor Neo Rauch Sebastian Burger, Stefan Guggisberg, Marie Carolin Knoth, Mandy Kunze and media artist Piper Mavis from Los Angeles create site-specific art works and put already existing works in dialog with the castle. This poses on the one hand the danger to stylize the contemporary art for decoration, while on the other hand offers the chance to re-read the place and the art works as well as to generate new meanings through this encounter.

Eine romantische Landschaft um das Schloss Machern herum, Parkanlagen mit englischem Garten, ein Ritterturm und Parkskulpturen. Die Malerei war lange Zeit Dienerin der aristokratischen Repräsentation und das Medium für die Verewigung des Selbstbildes des Adels. Welches Potenzial haben die historischen Räumlichkeiten des Schlosses für die zeitgenössische Kunst?
Künstler_innen der New York Academy of Art Matthew Comeau, Esteban Ocampo, Camila Rocha, Hannah Stahl und Meisterschüler_innen von Prof. Neo Rauch: Sebastian Burger, Stefan Guggisberg, Marie Carolin Knoth, Mandy Kunze sowie die Medienkünstlerin Piper Mavis aus Los Angeles schaffen ortsspezifische Werke und stellen bereits vorhandene Arbeiten in einen Dialog zum Schloss Machern. Dies birgt einerseits die Gefahr, auch die zeitgenössische Kunst zur Dekoration zu stilisieren, bietet aber andererseits die Chance, den Ort und die Kunstwerke neu zu lesen und durch diese Begegnung neue Bedeutungen zu generieren.
